Millard North - 3
Omaha South- 2 (PKs)

With snow falling and winds blowing and temperatures dropping and a field frosted with snow, the Packers played host to another conference rival. However, this was not the Green Bay Packers and the visitors were not the Chicago Bears. This was an early season match between the 2nd ranked and the undefeated South Omaha juggernaut soccer program and the up and coming Millard North Mustangs. Both teams brought an attacking style and skilled players which resulted in some terrific chances and some great goal keeping. The home team was the first to strike when a midfielder headed a glancing shot   off a corner kick into the far corner of the net . It wasn’t until after intermission when Cam “ overdrive” Kellner took a long pass into the box from Will “Big as a Hill” Ferris. Warding off three defenders, he brought the airborne pass down like a space shuttle returning from a mission. Then he checked over his right shoulder and spun to his left surprising the goalie and the rest of his team by knocking it in for the equalizer. The game continued on, ending in a tie. In over time, after a series of unfortunate events, the South High Packers were able to hit in a shot from 12 yards out.  With time waning and the wind whining, things looked bleak. Never quitting and always pressuring the forwards created fits for the home team. With just 3 minutes remaining, the pressure finally caused them to foul in the box. “Lone” Hunter Gorby made the PK and it was on to a shoot out. In the shoot out nearly everyone shot except for our Goalkeeper. But after 9 it was still tied. Then Brian “I have an itch for talcum powder” Talcott save one. So it was up to Mitch “Iron Leg” Ferris. He walked up, paused. He took out his cell phone. Order a large pepperoni with extra cheese and hammered it past the keeper. No doubt about it.  Coach Hoie brought spicy peanuts to keep warm on the sideline, apparently an old keeper’s secret.
